Signed in cursive with the initials "P.J." followed by the surname "Mêne," engraved directly into the base material.

The animal's body is characterized by powerful, stocky muscles, with the shaggy, tousled fur typical of the species.
A crest of longer hair is clearly visible along the back, while the head features small, erect ears and an elongated snout ending in a flat nose. The mouth is slightly ajar, revealing the lower tusks.
The work rests on a slightly contoured, irregular oval base that simulates rocky or muddy terrain, embellished with small reliefs reminiscent of tufts of grass or stones.
Pierre-Jules Mêne (1810-1879) was one of the most celebrated French sculptors of the "Animaliers" school, known for his anatomical precision and ability to capture the animals' natural movement.
The subject of the wild boar is a classic in his repertoire and reflects the era's taste for hunting scenes and wildlife. The presence of the serial number "A 2303" on the base suggests that this is a casting from a licensed foundry, probably made after the artist's death using his original models.
