1775124163Code Roblo Porthole n. 132 REXPorthole from the transatlantic liner REX, which was replaced by an Italia Navigazione worker in Genoa because it had been "uprooted," breaking all the bolts holding it to the side. This damage was caused by rubbing the hull in the Port of New York or Naples, as reported in the ship’s history.
All the fixing pins were torn from the edge, and these pins were not replaceable because they were located in correspondence with the opening pins.
It is made of cast bronze and weighs 40 kg. The opening in the side is approximately 40 cm in diameter (to prevent the passage of people).
External dimensions: 53 x 18 cm - 20.9 x 7 in.
It consists of a fixing flange with five torn bolts, a window with solid glass approximately 20 mm thick, with visible scratches, a countersunk bolt on the left, which can only be opened with a special key to prevent it from being opened by anyone, and a hinge on the left. The porthole number 132 is engraved on the hinge and edge.
The internal flange closing the blind cover is cast bronze with three asymmetrical pins and bolts with different opening keys. The shutter has three radial reinforcement branches inside the circle. It opens downward. One of the flanges still bears the engraved number 132.
The outer circle of the porthole is thicker on the lower semicircle that rested against the side, to prevent salt water from penetrating the thickness of the hull sheet metal.
The rubber gaskets on both the glass and the shutter are gray, but all are chipped due to age.
