1620647920Code 650 Antique microscopeOptical microscope signed F.lli Koristka Milano n. 42870 produced between 1920/30, of chromed and black painted brass, three-magnification turret, consisting of a stand and a plate where the object or slide to be observed is placed, the light is reflected by a mirror that sends the beam of light concentrated on a condenser and therefore on the object to be observed. In its beautiful original elm wood case complete with key, which contains some accessories. Excellent condition, fully functional. Box size cm 20x24.5 h 36 - 7.8x9.64x14.17 inches.

The F.lli Koristka firm was established in Milan in 1881/1882 by two brothers originally from Poland, and soon it became one of the most important manufacturers of optical instruments (binoculars and microscopes), distinguished by the high quality of the lenses on their products. During the First World War it produced a binoculars for the officers of the Royal Navy: the "Marenostrum"; but after this conflict, however, partly because of reduced production, the company went through a period of crisis, which led to the acquisition in 1929 by the Galileo, that bought the brand and laboratories. However, the production of microscopes and binoculars with Koristka mark continued until after the Second World War.

Nobody knows who invented the microscope, but you cannot deny that Galileo was the first one to develop the concept of microscopic observation and he was one of the first user of microscope as a scientific instrument. Already in 1610 he had made a microscope in the shape of an eyeglass to look at the organs of small animals: in 1614 he said to have seen with this instrument "flies as big as sheep" and he discovered that the flies had body hair and claws sharp. With the microscope it changed the knowledge of the world, in fact until the seventeenth century the knowledge of the structure of matter and of the infinitesimal life forms was very poor. At first they were not fully understood the potentials of this instrument ("Little more than a game, a nice tool that is hardly surprising for a few minutes, but that has not other utilities" was the judgment about microscope in 1700), but in the twentieth century the microscope has become the symbol of science, because of its many applications.
