1790351950Code 8505b Monoplane WingLaminated walnut model from the Caproni aerodynamics laboratory, depicting the complete monoplane wing, consisting of the right wing half, the left wing half, and the central fuselage junction, designed as a single unit for strength and lateral stability tests.
The wing planform, high aspect ratio, strong taper towards the blunt tips, and the central dorsal fairing identify the Caproni Vizzola F.5 model. The F.5 fighter of 1939.
Mounted on a custom-made brass and iron stand.

The wind tunnel models for the Vizzola F.5 fighters were tested in this "isolated wing" configuration to map the profile curves before assembling the complete fuselage.
The holes visible on the centerline were used to bolt the wing to the wind tunnel's dynamometer, allowing for precise adjustment of the angle of attack during airflow.
The Caproni Vizzola F.5 was one of the most elegant Italian monoplane fighters of World War II, designed in the late 1930s by engineer Fabrizio Fabrizi at the Vizzola Ticino (Varese) factory.
Founded in 1910 by engineer Gianni Caproni in Somma Lombardo, the Società Aviatori Caproni was one of the largest and most innovative aviation companies in Italy and the world. After debuting with the Ca.1, the first aircraft to fly in the skies of Lombardy, the company rapidly established itself during World War I thanks to the mass production of famous multi-engine bombers adopted by the Italian and Allied armed forces. In the 1920s and 1930s, Caproni grew into a major industrial group with strategic plants in Milan Taliedo, Vizzola Ticino, Trento, and the aerodynamic research center in Guidonia. During this golden age, the company distinguished itself for its constant drive for technical experimentation, creating iconic aircraft and revolutionary prototypes such as the gigantic Ca.60 Transaereo seaplane and the Stipa-Caproni roll-fuselage aircraft, crucial to the development of jet propulsion. During the Second World War, its factories provided a primary contribution to military aviation with fighters, reconnaissance aircraft, and bombers, but the severe war damage and post-war economic difficulties led to the closure of the historic industrial activities in 1950, leaving an indelible legacy in the history of engineering and flight.
