1533119215Code 4759A Print Cadiz 1823French print by engraving on copper plate of the first half of the nineteenth century, depicting the bombardment of Cadiz by the French Navy, 23 September 1823. The print is signed peint par Crepin - gravé par Chauvane. Very good condition. Including frame 51x1.3x39.5 cm - 20x0.5x15.55 inches.
On 17 April 1823 the French army passed the Pyrenees and entered Catalonia. After entering San Sebastián, and an attack on Madrid, the Spanish Liberal Government immediately capitulated. The French army only had to march on Cadiz. On 20 September 1823 the French from the sea destroyed the resistance of the Santi Petri fort which was a point of defense of the city; then the bombing of Cadiz began.
