Antique instrument used in coast navigation to position on nautical map the ship point surveying three points visible and well-known. The station pointer, called also three arm protractor has a circle, graduated from 0 to 180° in both directions, with three arms in the centre: the central one is fixed on 0, the others are mobile. Positioning these three arms in three observed points, forming three observed angles, it’s possible to obtain the position of ship point. This instrument is used also in topography.
