1606900538Code 6715 Casella AnemometerAnemometer made in the thirties of brass and bakelite with three scales, in its original masonite box complete with key, signed Casella London. Excellent condition, fully functional, complete with brass base made to measure for display. Box size 29x23 h 10 cm, anemometer height 28 cm.

Cesare Tagliabue founded his company in 1799, and after a few years Louis Pascal Casella became a partner and the company took his name. The company immediately became known for the quality of its products by exporting them all over the world, becoming famous because Darwin also used many of its tools during his scientific research. The instruments invented and produced helped navigation, weather and medical research. The anemometer is an instrument that measures the flow of air and is used to detect and measure its speed.

Leon Battista Alberti around the mid-1400s invented the first anemometer using a mobile tablet, whose inclination determined a measure of the intensity of the wind. While Leonardo da Vinci built an instrument that detected the direction of the wind called anemoscope and succeeded in designing an anemometer to measure the wind speed with foils. Anemometers equipped with mobile propellers probably derive from windmills; this idea, for example, was exploited starting around 1670 by Robert Hooke.
