1619770926Code 636 Torricellian barometerTorricellian mercury barometer of wood, veneered in rosewood with cedar wood trim at the edges, signed Caux Opticien Rue Rivoli près du Louvre Paris, mid-19th century; dial with the meteorological indications on paper printed by engraving on copper plate, while the manufacturer's indications are written with hand ink. Double pointer, the first one directly connected to the barometric tube indicates the trend of atmospheric pressure, the second one, positioned inside the center of the protective glass, is operated by a small knob placed outside the glass to check the variation in pressure over time; complete with alcohol thermometer with double Centigrade and Fahrenheit scale.
Height 94 cm - 37 inches, width 26.3 cm - 9.29 inches, depth / thickness 6 cm - 2.36.
Very good condition, fully functional.
For safety during transport the barometer will be shipped emptied of mercury. The mercury will be placed in a sealed container in the package together with the barometer.
When it was discovered, that changes of atmospheric pressure are connected to changes of weather, barometers became very popular.
Evangelista Torricelli (1608-1647), mathematician and physicist, Galileo’s disciple, was the fist one in 1643 to make an instrument for measure changes of air pressure.

Do you provide an authenticity certificate/expertise?
Of course! The legislative decree n. 42/2004 stipulates that who sells works of art or historical and archaeological items has the obligation to deliver to the purchaser the documents attesting to the authenticity of the object, or at least to submit the documents relating to the probable attribution and origin. Antik Arte & Scienza provides an expertise (as warranty) that contains a description, period and assignment or the author, if known, of the item.

Shipping by DHL or UPS is free (but if we are shipping to a country non-EU remember that any taxes and customs duties are on your expense), and items will be sent just after receiving of payment.

Europe: delivering on the average in 2/3 weekdays.
Other countries: delivering on the average in 5 weekdays; custom duties charged to the buyer.
