1620141322Code 633 Torricellian barometerTorricellian mercury barometer made rosewood, signed Burlinson Ripon from the mid 19th century. Silver-plated brass dial engraved with weather indications and the name of the manufacturer. The reading of the barometer is indicated by a double pointer, the first one directly connected to the barometric tube indicates the trend of atmospheric pressure, the second one, operated by a marine ivory knob placed under the dial, acts as a reading vernier for checking the variation of atmospheric pressure over time. Mercury thermometer signed SATI made in the 1950s with a silver-plated brass temperature scale calibrated from -20 ° to + 50 ° degrees centigrade. The mechanism has been cleaned and overhauled. Height 103 cm - 40.55 inches, width 32 cm - 12.59 inches, depth / thickness 5 cm - 1.96 inches.
Very goood condition, fully functional.
For safety during transport the barometer will be shipped emptied of mercury. The mercury will be placed in a sealed container in the package together with the barometer.
When it was discovered, that changes of atmospheric pressure are connected to changes of weather, barometers became very popular.
Evangelista Torricelli (1608-1647), mathematician and physicist, Galileo’s disciple, was the fist one in 1643 to make an instrument for measure changes of air pressure.

Do you provide an authenticity certificate/expertise?
Of course! The legislative decree n. 42/2004 stipulates that who sells works of art or historical and archaeological items has the obligation to deliver to the purchaser the documents attesting to the authenticity of the object, or at least to submit the documents relating to the probable attribution and origin. Antik Arte & Scienza provides an expertise (as warranty) that contains a description, period and assignment or the author, if known, of the item.

Shipping by DHL or UPS is free (but if we are shipping to a country non-EU remember that any taxes and customs duties are on your expense), and items will be sent just after receiving of payment.

Other countries: delivering on the average in 5 weekdays; custom duties charged to the buyer.
