1669202775Code 7115 Slide-RuleAntique ebonite brass and papier maché spiral slide-rule, conceived by George Fuller from Belfast, engineering professor in Queen’s University in London in 1878, made by STANLEY in the early 1920s; it is located in its original mahogany box. Very good condition. Box cm 46x12x11 (h) – inches 18.11x4.72x4.33.
Logarithmic line of a slide-rule is arranged spirally on the surface of a cylinder, to increase the length of scale e make a more correct calculation. This kind of slide-rule was the most successful one; it was equivalent to 8 times the length of a rectangular slide-rule.
The efficacy of slide rule as instrument for multiply or divide quickly and also for square roots etc. was appreciated just at the end of XVIII century. There were many kinds for different activities, for example for measure wood, iron bars, barrels, live-stock, wine and alcohol taxes. They were made slide rules for chemical equivalence, for calculate rents, barometric heights, time for photographic exposure.

The legislative decree n. 42/2004 stipulates that who sells works of art or historical and archaeological items has the obligation to deliver to the purchaser the documents attesting to the authenticity of the object, or at least to submit the documents relating to the probable attribution and origin.
