The compass has a snap-lock lid with release button inside the ring . Four-winds compass card complete with goniometric circle for calculating horizontal angles. Excellent condition, fully functional, diameter 4.5 cm - 1.77 inches, thickness 1.8 cm - 0.7 inches.
The compass is marked with the Government 'Broad Arrow' Mark, that means it was issued to the Officer by the British Government and was Government property.

In 1854 the company moves to Waltham, and the factory get to employ more than 3,000 people; one of the customers is Abraham Lincoln. In 1900 the company builds its own astronomical observatory.
