This is a medical device used to artificially induce a pneumothorax by injecting air into the chest cavity in a controlled manner, causing the lung to collapse for therapeutic purposes.
This was a widely used treatment, especially for pulmonary tuberculosis, before the discovery of antibiotics.

This instrument was used to insufflate oxygen and nitrogen into the pleural cavity via a needle or catheter, with the aim of inducing the collapse of the diseased lung, promoting rest and healing of the lesions.
It was equipped with a regulating valve and a pressure gauge to precisely control the pressure of the air introduced.
The device was used in hospitals, particularly those dedicated to the care of patients with tuberculosis.
Genito Urinary Manufacturing Co. Ltd. was a British manufacturer of specialized medical instruments for urology and genitourinary surgery, active since the mid-20th century.
The company was listed in surgical and urological instrument catalogs for the production and distribution of equipment such as pumps, devices, and accessories specifically for surgical and diagnostic procedures. Before the antibiotic era, one of the most well-known instruments was the artificial pneumothorax.
