1447329316Code 4913 Cary London microscopeSmall pocket microscope, brass, signed Cary London dated back to 1830 circa, mounted on the lid of its original mahogany box. Very good condition, fully functional. Box measures cm12.5x11.3x3.2-inch4.9x4.5x1.2.

An advertisement of this pocket microscope told that for its portability and the ability to zoom it was strongly recommended to naturalists, to mineralogists and botanists. This new microscope was produced by William Cary (1789-1891), a manufacturer of scientific instruments who had his shop at 181 Strand in London. To promote sales in 1827 it was published the booklet "The Companion to the microscope" edited till 1848, where he described the equipment: sidebar screwed to the mahogany box, optical tube screwed on an arm, tweezers, some lenses and two ivory slides.
