1669370762Code 7391 Tellurium and GlobeAntique terrestrial globe with tellurium for explain the movements of the Moon around the Earth, made after the second World War by Paravia the cartographic house. Iron base, papier maché sphere. Very good condition. Height cm 70 - inches 27.55, diameter of sphere cm 30 - inches 11.6.

The Paravia Publishing House was established in 1802 by Giovanni Battista Paravia that took over, after having been director, the Avondo typography. The first steps were certainly not easy: the limitations on printing by the Napoleonic laws at that time in much of Northern Italy caused serious problems to the Publishing House, which resolved after the Restoration in 1814. With the National Unity of Italy in 1861 to Paravia will open new markets and within a few years he set up retail outlets in major cities, and early twentieth century, the publishing house, throughout the peninsula, was one of the most modern and efficient Italian publishing companies.

Till the beginning of ‘900 spheres for globes were made like in the origins: two papier maché hemispheres, pressed and modelled on or in a hemispherical mould, dried and reinforced inside with a wooden board, so pasted and covered by a thin coat of plaster; on this support they were pasted the lunes of globe about zones between two meridians, generally 12, paper printed by engraved copper plate and coloured, and covering 30 degrees longitude.
