Joseph Maclise, fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, published his work in Philadelphia in 1859, dedicating it to two professors at the Univesity College London Samuel Cooper and Robert Liston. The work contains 68 colored plates: the drawings of Maclise are impressive, all the figures of anatomical dissection seem alive and the faces seem a gallery of portraits: it is art, only incidentally of an anatomicalsubject.
