1614337678Code 6868 Ceebynite compassPocket compass used by American aviation officers from 1915 of brass in the shape of a pocket watch, signed Ceebynite Short & Mason Taylor Rochester N.Y. The compass is equipped with a lid with snap closure with release button inside the ring. Four-winds compass card complete with goniometric circle for calculating horizontal angles. Good condition, fully functional, glass slightly dirty inside. Diameter 4.5 cm - 1.77 inches, thickness 1.3 cm - 0.5 inches.

Taylor Instrument Companies was a US manufacturer located in Rochester, New York. The business started in 1851 when George Taylor and his partner Kendall made thermometers in Rochester, selling them from their truck. The company name was changed in 1872 to Taylor Bros. and in 1900 it acquired Short & Mason, founded by Thomas Watling Short and William James Mason in 1875 at 40 Hatton Gardens, London. For a short period of time Short & Mason made the Taylor compass line in England, but around 1915-1918 the production was moved to the United States.
